Does Honey Break a Fast?

Posted on July 13, 2022 by

If you’re familiar with fasting or have researched it, the answer that Yes, honey does break a fast probably won’t surprise you. Unfortunately, while honey is a delicious natural option for sweetening your foods, it’s not appropriate for fasting. That’s because honey is made up of simple sugars that will spike your insulin levels, breaking your fast and putting your body into its eating period.

If you still need a little sweetness in your day, you can consider an artificial option, though that might present health risks not associated with fasting. There are several options to choose from, including Stevia, Aspartame, and Splenda. They don’t seem to have any effect on blood glucose levels, so they won’t break your fast. You can also consider a dash of cinnamon if it suits your mood because it won't have an effect either.
